Program Director of the SLS-accredited Fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Gynecologic Surgery. Senior or first author on the majority of the team’s peer-reviewed output, Principal Investigator on eight industry-sponsored FDA clinical trials, and inventor on three issued United States patents. Ali Azadi, MD

Collaborating Senior Investigator — Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery

Senior co-author on Dr. Marchand’s urogynecology and vaginal surgery research, including meta-analyses of laparoscopic versus vaginal uterosacral ligament suspension, uterine-preserving prolapse repair, and vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery. Co-editor of the Textbook of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (CRC Press, 2026), in which he co-authored the chapter on principles of vaginal surgery and vNOTES with Dr. Marchand and Dr. Jan Baekelandt.

Katelyn M. Sainz, MD

Investigator — Obstetrics and Maternal-Fetal Outcomes

First author of the team’s systematic review of neonatal ischemic encephalopathy in operative vaginal delivery versus cesarean at complete dilation (American Journal of Perinatology, 2026) and of the updated meta-analysis of maternal and neonatal outcomes of cannabis use in pregnancy (Maternal Health, Neonatology and Perinatology, 2025). Long-standing contributor across Dr. Marchand’s obstetric research line.

Fatma Ibrahim, MD

Investigator — Evidence Synthesis

Contributing author on recent meta-analyses including single- versus double-layer uterine closure and cesarean scar outcomes, and the analysis of lower-carbohydrate and lower-glycemic-index diets in pregnancy.

Ahmed Taher Masoud, MD

Research Methodologist

Statistical and methodological lead on a large share of the team’s meta-analytic output, including the JAMA Network Open analysis of birth outcomes after in-utero marijuana exposure and the AJOG Global Reports analysis of COVID-19 in pregnancy. Specialist in random-effects pooling, heterogeneity assessment and network meta-analysis.

Contributing author on the team’s work in laparoendoscopic single-site ovarian cystectomy, RSVpreF vaccination in pregnancy, and radical hysterectomy for early stage cervical cancer.

Contributors who do not meet all four criteria are recognized in the acknowledgements rather than listed as authors. He does not offer or accept gift, guest or ghost authorship, and authorship positions are never sold.

All investigators declare no conflicts of interest. Dr. Marchand accepts no pharmaceutical or medical device industry funding for his research program.
