Dr. Marchand among first in the Nation to Earn the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s Focused Practice Designation in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery

MESA, Ariz. — June 18, 2021

The very first examination to earn ABOG’s practice designation was held at testing centers this May 3rd – May 7th 2021, and The Marchand Institute’s own Dr. Greg Marchand was among the first in the country to pass this examination and earn the new designation of “Focused Practice in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery.” In addition to the examination, candidates were required to submit case logs to demonstrate significant experience in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. The designation is not the same as a board certification, but many feel that the practice designation is the first step toward formally recognizing Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS), as a separately boarded subspecialty. The Marchand Institute is proud to be one of only a few institutions to hold this designation, and among the first in the world! We are happy to share Dr. Marchand’s acceptance letter at this link.

About Dr. Greg Marchand

Greg J. Marchand, MD, FACS, FACOG, FICS, is a dual board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon practising in Mesa, Arizona. He holds the ABOG Focused Practice Designation in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and directs the Marchand Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit research and educational corporation (EIN 42-2857240). He is Program Director of an SLS-accredited fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Gynecologic Surgery, holds three issued United States patents, and has served as Principal Investigator on eight FDA clinical trials. His systematic reviews are prospectively registered with PROSPERO, reported to PRISMA standards and appraised with the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 tool. He accepts no industry funding for his research.
